What is Helium?

Helium (HNT) is the token of Helium, a decentralized wireless network built by people who install hotspots in their homes and businesses. It began with a long-range network for Internet of Things devices and has expanded into cellular service through Helium Mobile, which offers low-cost phone plans.

Hotspot owners earn tokens for providing coverage. Helium moved from its own blockchain to Solana in 2023. HNT is burned to create Data Credits, which pay for network use, linking the token to demand for the service.
