Crypto Fear and Greed Index
A daily 0–100 reading of crypto market sentiment, calculated by us from market data rather than surveys or social media. Low readings mean investors are fearful, which has often been a better time to look for bargains; high readings mean greed, when markets tend to be stretched. It describes the mood, it does not predict prices.

What is driving today's reading
Volatility · 25%
5441% annualised
Bitcoin's 30-day volatility, compared with its own past year. Calm markets score higher; sudden swings push towards fear.
Momentum · 25%
89+17.0% vs 90-day average
How far Bitcoin trades above or below its 90-day average, compared with the past year.
Market breadth · 20%
8282% of top 100 above average
Share of the 100 largest coins (excluding stablecoins) trading above their own 30-day average.
Bitcoin dominance · 15%
86-1.39 pts in 30 days
Change in Bitcoin's share of the total market over 30 days. Money moving into Bitcoin from altcoins is a defensive, fearful move.
Stablecoin share · 15%
6610.7% of total market cap
Stablecoins as a share of the total crypto market. A large share means money is parked on the sidelines.
How the index is calculated
Each component is scored from 0 to 100 by comparing today's value with every value since our data starts (up to a year), so a score of 80 means today is greedier than 80% of the days we have seen. Market breadth is already a percentage and is used as is. The five scores are averaged with the weights shown above; when a component lacks history it is left out and the others are re-weighted. The index updates every few minutes and the daily value is fixed at the end of each UTC day.
Readings: 0–24 Extreme Fear, 25–44 Fear, 45–55 Neutral, 56–75 Greed, 76–100 Extreme Greed. See also the Altcoin Season Index and market charts.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Crypto Fear and Greed Index?
A single number from 0 to 100 that summarises how fearful or greedy the crypto market is, based on volatility, price momentum, market breadth, Bitcoin dominance and the share of money held in stablecoins.
Is extreme fear a buy signal?
Not on its own. Extreme fear has often appeared near market lows and extreme greed near highs, but sentiment can stay extreme for weeks. Treat it as context, not a trading signal.
How often does it update?
Every few minutes with our market data. The value for each day is fixed once the UTC day ends.
Why is it different from other fear and greed indexes?
Every index uses its own inputs and weights. Ours uses only market data we collect ourselves, and the method is published on this page.
