What is NEO?

NEO is a smart contract blockchain founded in China in 2014 under the name Antshares, which made it one of the oldest platforms of its kind. It was once widely called the "Ethereum of China" and supports digital assets, digital identity and smart contracts.

NEO uses a dual-token model. Holding NEO gives governance rights and generates GAS, which is used to pay network fees. The network uses delegated Byzantine fault tolerance consensus for fast finality and supports programming languages such as C#, Python and Go. Neo has also launched an Ethereum-compatible sidechain called Neo X.
