What is Horizen?
Horizen (ZEN) is a project focused on privacy technology that launched in 2017 without an ICO. It originally ran its own proof-of-work blockchain with privacy features and a large network of nodes.
In 2025 Horizen moved its main network to Base, Coinbase's layer-2, as a layer-3 appchain. The new design focuses on making zero-knowledge proofs and trusted execution environments easy for developers to use in applications that need confidentiality. ZEN was migrated to the new network and is used for fees, staking and governance.
