What is YLDS?

YLDS is an interest-bearing dollar token issued by Figure, the fintech company known for using blockchain in lending. Unlike most stablecoins, YLDS is registered with the US Securities and Exchange Commission as a public security, which allows it to pay holders a yield directly.

Each YLDS is designed to stay at one dollar and is backed by assets similar to those held by a prime money market fund, such as short-term government securities and high-quality commercial paper. Interest is calculated daily and paid out in additional tokens, so holders earn a return roughly in line with short-term interest rates.

YLDS lives on the Provenance blockchain, which Figure helped create, and is used on the Figure Markets exchange as a cash balance and as collateral. Its registered status makes it one of the first examples of a yield-bearing dollar token operating under US securities law.
