What is Vana?

Vana (VANA) is the native token of Vana, an EVM-compatible layer-1 blockchain built so that people can pool their personal data and earn from its use in training AI models. The project grew out of research at MIT and was developed by Opendatalabs; its mainnet and token launched in December 2024.

Data is organised into Data DAOs and data liquidity pools, where contributors upload information such as social-media or app exports, and a proof-of-contribution process checks its quality before it is tokenised. VANA pays transaction fees, is staked by validators that secure the chain, and is used to reward data contributors and the operators of the data pools.
