Tezos (XTZ) is a proof-of-stake blockchain that launched in 2018, created by Arthur and Kathleen Breitman. Its best-known feature is on-chain governance: token holders vote on protocol upgrades, and approved changes are adopted automatically without splitting the chain into competing versions.
Tezos was designed with formal verification in mind, making it suitable for high-security smart contracts, and it has been used for NFTs, digital art and institutional projects. Holders can stake or delegate XTZ to bakers, the network's validators, to earn rewards. The protocol has been upgraded many times, with names such as Granada, Paris and Quebec.
