What is Terra?

Terra (LUNA) is the native token of the current Terra blockchain, launched in May 2022 after the collapse of the original Terra network and its UST stablecoin. The original chain, founded by Do Kwon and Terraform Labs, was renamed Terra Classic, and the new chain was started without a stablecoin through a community governance vote.

Terra is a proof-of-stake blockchain built with the Cosmos SDK and Tendermint consensus. LUNA is used to pay gas fees, to stake with validators who secure the network, and to vote on governance. The 2022 collapse led to major losses and legal actions, including criminal charges against Do Kwon.
