What is Steem?
Steem (STEEM) is the native token of the Steem blockchain, launched in 2016 by Ned Scott and Dan Larimer. It powers Steemit, a social media site similar to Reddit where users earn crypto for writing posts and for upvoting good content.
Steem uses delegated proof-of-stake. Users can power up STEEM, locking it as Steem Power to gain voting influence over rewards, and the system also includes the Steem Dollars (SBD) token.
In 2020 Justin Sun acquired Steemit Inc., which led to a dispute with the community. Many users and witnesses then forked the chain to create Hive.
