QuarkChain (QKC) is a blockchain project launched in 2018 that uses sharding to increase capacity. Sharding splits the network into many smaller chains that process transactions in parallel, while a root chain ties them together and confirms their results.

The design aims to let the network handle a high volume of transactions without requiring every node to process everything, and it allows groups of cheaper machines to work together as a full node. QKC is used to pay transaction fees, for mining and staking, and in governance.
