What is Pyth Network?
Pyth Network (PYTH) is a decentralized oracle that delivers financial market data to blockchains. Smart contracts cannot read prices from the outside world on their own, so lending platforms, derivatives exchanges and other DeFi apps rely on oracles like Pyth to know the current price of crypto assets, stocks, currencies and commodities.
What sets Pyth apart is where its data comes from. Instead of scraping public sources, it collects prices directly from first-party publishers such as trading firms, market makers and exchanges, then combines them into a single price with a confidence interval. It uses a pull model, where applications request an update only when they need it, which helps it serve over a hundred blockchains at low cost.
The network started on Solana in 2021 and grew into one of the most widely used oracles in crypto. PYTH is used for governance, letting holders vote on fees, listings and rewards for data publishers, and for staking that backs the accuracy of data feeds.
