Ontology Gas (ONG) is the utility token of Ontology, a public blockchain whose mainnet went live on June 30, 2018. Ontology was founded by the team behind the Chinese blockchain company Onchain, which also created NEO, and focuses on decentralized identity and data tools.
Ontology uses two tokens. ONT is staked to take part in consensus and governance, while ONG is used to pay transaction fees and for smart contract execution. ONG is released gradually to ONT holders and stakers over time, so holding or staking ONT generates ONG.
