What is Nano?

Nano (XNO) is a cryptocurrency designed for fast, fee-free payments. It was created by Colin LeMahieu, who published the original design under the name RaiBlocks in 2014, and it was renamed Nano in 2018.

Instead of a single blockchain, Nano uses a block-lattice structure in which every account has its own chain that only its owner can update. Conflicts are resolved by Open Representative Voting, where holders delegate their voting weight to representatives without locking coins or earning rewards. There is no mining and no new issuance, and transactions settle in under a second without fees. XNO is used purely as money. In 2018 the Italian exchange BitGrail lost a large amount of Nano in a widely reported theft.
