Metal DAO (MTL) is the token of Metal DAO, connected to Metal Pay, a cash and crypto payments app launched in 2016 by Metallicus, a company founded by Marshall Hayner. The token governs Metal Dollar (XMD), a stablecoin backed by a basket of other stablecoins.

MTL holders can vote on matters such as which stablecoins make up the XMD basket and their weightings. Within the Metal Pay app, holding MTL unlocks tiered discounts on trading fees. Metallicus is also behind the XPR Network blockchain.
