What is IoTeX?

IoTeX (IOTX) is the native token of IoTeX, a layer-1 blockchain launched in 2019 by a team that began work in 2017, focused on connecting physical devices and real-world data to blockchain applications. Its stack provides tools for device identity, verified data and off-chain computation, which the project now markets for DePIN networks and AI systems that need trusted real-world inputs.

The chain is EVM-compatible and uses a delegated proof-of-stake model called Roll-DPoS, in which token holders vote for delegates that produce blocks. IOTX pays transaction fees, is staked to secure the network and vote on delegates, and is used in governance and in the economics of DePIN projects built on IoTeX.
