What is Hive?

Hive (HIVE) is the native token of Hive, a blockchain for social media and gaming created in March 2020 as a community fork of Steem. The fork followed Justin Sun's purchase of Steemit Inc., after which many Steem users and witnesses moved to a new chain.

Hive uses delegated proof of stake, with holders voting for 21 block producers called witnesses, and has no fees for ordinary transactions; instead, users stake HIVE to obtain resource credits. Staked HIVE, known as Hive Power, also gives users influence over how rewards are distributed to content on apps such as PeakD and Splinterlands. The network also has HBD, a dollar-pegged token.
