What is Decred?
Decred (DCR) is a cryptocurrency that launched in 2016 with a hybrid security model combining proof-of-work mining and proof-of-stake voting. Miners create blocks, while stakeholders who lock DCR in tickets vote to approve them, which makes it harder for any single group to control the network.
Decred puts a strong emphasis on self-governance. Ticket holders vote on protocol changes and on how the project treasury, funded by part of each block reward, is spent. The network also offers privacy mixing through StakeShuffle and supports the Lightning Network for fast payments.
