What is Casper Network?

Casper Network (CSPR) is a proof-of-stake Layer 1 blockchain that launched its mainnet in March 2021, with a focus on business use and tokenized real-world assets. It was developed with support from CasperLabs.

Casper offers upgradable smart contracts, built-in access controls and a consensus protocol called Zug that gives fast, final settlement. It supports multiple virtual machines and lets developers build in Rust and WebAssembly, with SDKs for common languages. The CSPR token is used for transaction fees, staking by validators and delegators, and governance. In 2024 the network was briefly halted after a security breach.
