What is A7A5?
A7A5 is a stablecoin pegged to the Russian ruble. It is issued by a company registered in Kyrgyzstan and is said to be backed by ruble deposits held at banks, mainly the Russian bank PSB. It runs on the Ethereum and TRON blockchains.
The token launched in early 2025 and grew quickly, with large transfer volumes linked to cross-border trade payments. Part of the interest earned on its reserves is shared with holders through daily distributions, which makes it unusual among stablecoins.
A7A5 has been sanctioned by the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union, which accuse it of helping Russian entities evade financial sanctions and link it to the Grinex exchange, seen as a successor to the sanctioned Garantex. Because of this, it is restricted or unavailable on many platforms, and dealing with it carries legal risk in many countries.
