About Grass
Grass (GRASS) is a decentralized network that pays people for sharing their unused internet bandwidth. Users install an app or browser extension, and the network routes requests through their connections to collect public web data, which is then cleaned and structured for uses such as training artificial intelligence models.
The idea is that companies building AI need large amounts of public web data, and Grass lets ordinary internet users take part in that market rather than leaving it to large data brokers. The network runs on Solana, where it uses its own data layer to record what was collected and prove where it came from.
GRASS launched in October 2024 with an airdrop to early users who had earned points by running nodes. The token is used for staking, which helps route traffic and secure the network, and for governance. Grass is part of the DePIN category, which covers projects that reward people for contributing real-world resources.
