About Ethereum Name Service
Ethereum Name Service (ENS) is a naming system on Ethereum that replaces long wallet addresses with readable names such as alice.eth. One name can point to addresses on many blockchains, a website, a profile picture and other records, so it acts as a portable on-chain identity.
ENS launched in 2017 and is run as a DAO. The ENS token, airdropped to name holders in 2021, gives holders a vote on fees, treasury spending and protocol changes. ENS can also connect existing web domains such as .com names, and the team is building Namechain, its own layer-2 network, to lower costs.
