About AZTEC
Aztec (AZTEC) is the token of Aztec Network, a privacy-focused Layer 2 network on Ethereum. The company was co-founded by Zac Williamson and Joe Andrews, and its team created PLONK in 2019, a widely used zero-knowledge proof system that many other projects have since adopted.
Aztec lets developers build applications where parts of the transaction data and smart contract logic stay private. Proofs are generated on the user's own device, so sensitive information does not have to be shared with the network, while Ethereum still verifies that everything is correct. Contracts are written in Noir, a language developed by Aztec. The AZTEC token is used for staking by the network's sequencers and provers, for fees and for governance.
