About PayPal USD
PayPal USD (PYUSD) is a US dollar stablecoin launched by PayPal in 2023 and issued by Paxos. Each token is backed by US dollar deposits, short-term US Treasuries and similar cash equivalents, and can be redeemed one-to-one for dollars.
PYUSD is built into PayPal and Venmo, so users in supported regions can buy, hold, send and convert it directly in apps they already use. Merchants can also accept it for payments. Outside PayPal, the token is available on Ethereum, Solana and other blockchains and is used in exchanges and DeFi apps.
Paxos publishes monthly reserve reports, and PYUSD is regulated under New York's financial rules. It was one of the first stablecoins launched by a major traditional payments company, which helped bring stablecoins more attention from mainstream users.
