About Tether Gold
Tether Gold (XAUT) is a token backed by physical gold, issued by the company behind the USDT stablecoin. Each XAUT represents one troy ounce of gold held in a vault in Switzerland, so its price follows the price of gold rather than the wider crypto market.
XAUT lets people own gold on a blockchain, making it easy to transfer, trade at any time and use in DeFi apps, without the cost and hassle of storing bars themselves. Holders can check which specific gold bar backs their tokens, and large holders can redeem for physical delivery in Switzerland or for cash.
The token is available on Ethereum and some other networks. As with other tokenized assets, it depends on the issuer and vault operator keeping the gold safe and publishing proof that reserves match the tokens in circulation.
