About PowerLedger
Powerledger (POWR) is the token of Powerledger, a company founded in Australia in 2016 that builds blockchain software for energy markets. Its platform lets people and businesses trade surplus solar energy with neighbors, track renewable energy certificates and trade environmental commodities.
POWR was issued in 2017 as an ERC-20 token on Ethereum. The company also runs its own Powerledger blockchain, based on Solana's technology, to handle energy transactions at scale. POWR works as an access license for businesses such as utilities and developers using the platform and is used for fees and staking on the Powerledger chain.
