About USD Coin
USDC is a US dollar stablecoin issued by Circle, a regulated financial technology company. It launched in 2018 and is designed so that one USDC can always be redeemed for one US dollar. Its reserves are held in cash and short-dated US Treasury securities, mostly through a dedicated fund managed by BlackRock, and Circle publishes monthly reserve reports checked by an independent accounting firm.
USDC is the second-largest stablecoin and is especially popular with businesses, fintech apps and DeFi protocols that want a transparent, regulated digital dollar. It is used for trading, lending, payroll, remittances and settlement between companies. Circle also offers a euro stablecoin, EURC, built on the same model.
The token is available natively on many blockchains, including Ethereum, Solana, Base, Arbitrum, Polygon and Avalanche. Circle's Cross-Chain Transfer Protocol lets USDC move between chains by burning it on one network and minting it on another, avoiding the risks of wrapped bridge tokens.
