About Compound
Compound (COMP) is the governance token of Compound, one of the first DeFi lending protocols on Ethereum. Users supply assets to earn interest or borrow against collateral, with interest rates set automatically by supply and demand.
COMP launched in 2020 and kicked off the "DeFi summer" by rewarding users with tokens for using the protocol, a model many others copied. Holders vote on which assets are supported, interest rate models and treasury use. Compound III, the current version, uses separate markets with one borrowable asset each, and runs on Ethereum and several layer-2 networks.
